A longstanding tradition returns to San Francisco on July 27 and 28 when Revolution — a two-day, USA Ultimate sanctioned tournament featuring a prominent field of Bay Area mixed Ultimate teams — storms the gates of the Golden Gate Park Polo Fields.

Born in the late 1990s, Revolution has a storied history of promoting social activism and honoring an esteemed legacy. In the early years teams chose non-profit organizations to represent at the tournament. Teams promoted various causes and all tournament proceeds went directly to the winning teams’ organizations. After a handful of successful years Revolution took a brief hiatus; however a few years later, the untimely passing of a valued member of the ultimate community led to Revolution’s revival to honor the memory of Ana Hammond.

Revolution returns this summer and all tournament proceeds support Bay Area Disc Association’s many youth and adult programs focused on growing Ultimate in the Bay Area. The tournament will showcase 19 mixed teams from across the region.

Teams will get a summer taste of club series competition and see many likely NorCal Sectional and Southwest Regional matchups. The 2013 club season has reached its midpoint and teams will look to build their USA Ultimate rankings and make statements on the 2013 season. What team will make the loudest statement remains to be seen. Will it be Oakland Shipping Company showing off sophomore year success? Or will it be Mischief — fresh off its impressive 2nd place finish at the US Open — building its resume as one of the nation’s elite club teams?
