Letter To The Bay Area Ultimate Community

To the Bay Area Ultimate Community:

This year Bay Area Disc Association turns five years old. Like many toddlers, we’ve had our moments of joy and frustration, and we are excited to grow and enjoy the benefits of the wisdom we’ve acquired along the way. If you’ve read our newsletters, blog posts or visited our Facebook and Twitter pages you’ve seen the great foundation our Youth Director Valerio Iani and many others have built for youth Ultimate programs in the Bay Area. Bay Area Disc is passionate about growing youth Ultimate and we plan to continue providing opportunities for young people to play, learn and grow.

However, what we do goes far beyond youth programs. Bay Area Disc exists to serve the entire Bay Area Ultimate Community, including adult players of all levels. Just this week, registration opened for the Eric Arons SF Rec League — a league that provides an introduction to the sport for many new adult players — and Saturday kicks off the Pro Flight Finale where the nation’s top 8 club teams in the Open, Women’s and Mixed divisions close their regular seasons. These are just two of the many Bay Area Disc programs that allow adult players to locally enjoy year round Ultimate at their preferred level.

As we look ahead to our next five years of growth, Bay Area Disc revised its mission statement to reflect our focus on you, the Ultimate players who make this sport and its community special. Our mission:

Bay Area Disc Association strengthens the Ultimate community by creating opportunities for youth, club, and adult recreational athletes to interact, develop and compete. We foster positive playing and learning experiences and embrace Spirit of the Game in all aspects of our work and play.

I am honored and excited to be the next President of Bay Area Disc Association. Soon we’ll be announcing more changes and new additions to our Board of Directors, the talented group of volunteers who will help continue the great progress we’ve made. Moving forward, Bay Area Disc has a single strategic goal: to advocate for our players and provide opportunities to play. As a valued member of the Bay Area Ultimate Community, I look forward to working with you to achieve this goal.

See you on the field soon,
